ABSTRACT

As it should be clear from the previous chapter, when we discussed the challenge of exporting business models, we see globalization as a multi-layered phenomenon. We cannot understand the challenges faced when globalizing HRM unless we consider these implications at each level, and across each level. In Figure 2.1 we use the metaphor of a three-dimensional chess board to signal the complexity of changes that must be managed. A move, or the possibility of a move, at one level has significant implications across all other levels.
