ABSTRACT
Leaders are responsible for modeling and reinforcing the values making up a culture conducive for effective, collaborative, and inclusive learning communities that support progress toward achieving equity. Developing strategies to ensure mutual accountability for contributing to organizational goals while supporting and maintaining a safe and caring climate is an important leadership function for Transformational Leaders. The use of protocols to facilitate reflective dialogue has many benefits for both the faculty and the Transformational Leader. Protocols provide a frame for describing and analyzing teaching practices which can enhance their individual and collective expertise. Establishing time and space, teacher empowerment, and communication processes provide the basic structures for initiating authentic learning in professional communities. Challenge in the form of new learning with the assurance of support through feedback and guided reflection enables teachers to fully engage in both individual and collaborative learning. Norms must support capacity for learning community members to engage in productive dialogue, reflective inquiry, and collaborative work.
