An Integrative Approach book
In this chapter, we begin with an exploration of existing approaches to the treatment of anorexia nervosa including cognitive-behavioral therapy, specialist supportive clinical management, cognitive remediation, familybased treatments, psychodynamic treatments, and third-wave approaches such as mindfulness and acceptance and commitment therapy. We also review the adjunctive interventions of pharmacotherapy, nutritional rehabilitation, inpatient and day hospital treatment, and psychoeducation. Each of these modalities has immense value for our understanding of anorexia nervosa in both males and females. In the integrative model proposed in this book, we incorporate many of their findings and techniques to address the whole of the male patient with anorexia nervosa.
