ABSTRACT

Introduction In Chapter 10, we introduced a hypothesis test where we either verified or refuted a claim about some unknown population mean by using a sample from that population. In this chapter, we take the next logical step, where two samples are compared to see if they are from different populaK tions or from the same population. In other words, we will draw a single sample from each popuK lation and then compare sample means so we can make an inference with respect to the populations. Although hypothesis testing between two samples (and thus two populations) pretty much folK lows the same basic format as the single sample (versus population) test, there are a couple of important differences, which will require some modifications.
