ABSTRACT

The monologue audition is one that expects the actors to have a monologue (or two) prepared to perform. The biggest benefit of the monologue audition is that are seeing the actors at their best. The cold read audition has the actors coming in without a prepared piece. They are given sides from the script when they arrive at the audition, and a short amount of time to look over the scene before being asked to read for the auditors. The callback audition is a second audition where have narrowed down the list of actors want to see again. In terms of format, callback auditions can be whatever need them to be. The audition process is inherently unfair and is not necessarily a meritocracy. It is therefore incumbent upon the director to make the process as fair and equitable as possible. With the auditions finished, the actual casting process begins.
