ABSTRACT

The secret to making the most efficient use of time is planning. It began with the script analysis that director did (especially the character-scene-location breakdown), which ensures that have a firm foundational grasp of production, and continues with preparation before each rehearsal. One of the biggest keys to scheduling individual rehearsals is to avoid wasting time. The contents of the “to be rehearsed” column will vary, depending on the type of show and the type of rehearsal. Actors often (in their own minds and/or research notebooks) often break down and refer to a show in a manner different from that found in the script. Actors work best when they are able to prepare for rehearsals, which means that knowing what they need to prepare is key. All of the preparation by a director is aimed at ensuring that he or she is armed with as much knowledge as possible once the rehearsal process begins.
