ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The different religion-related cultural controversies analysed in the book were part of a wider clash between two coalitions of actors, one secularist and the other inspired by religious values. According to the results of the analysis since all our findings, both in terms of actors, and in terms of frames, contradict such a hypothesis. Most of the issues analysed in the book emerge for the first time in the Italian debate, while never having been part of it. Among the external factors, we can surely mention the many religion-related debates developed in the Western world, and especially in Italy's neighbouring countries such as France and Spain, which have often influenced the rise and the thematization of many issues in the Italian debate, sometimes also favoured by the EU institutions.
