ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book developes the concept of postsecularity as a framework through which to render visible and interpret ethical and political subjectivities emerging between boundaries of religion and secularity. It explores the ways in which postsecularity transcends binaries between religion and secularism, mystery and structure, faith and reason, and ethics and politics. The chapter argues that using these three currents to analyse the deconstruction of these binaries illustrates how postsecularity both exercises and fosters hope as those practicing it forge an ethico-politics that seeks to shatter the affective malaise of contemporary neoliberalism. It reviews some of the key theoretical debates around postsecularity in order to further clarify what we perceive to be its progressive political and ethical potential. The chapter also explores the capacity of postsecularity for generating counter-neoliberal subjectivities.
