ABSTRACT

This chapter examines that, with a deliberate language acquisition focus connected to content, it was a viable goal for all students. It planned instruction for each grade level that provided repetitive comprehensible input at or just above the target level. The chapter focuses on the top 40 verbs used in the Spanish language for grades K-2. The chapter tries to stay away from worksheets or bingo games that do not always use the words in context. It has to take deliberate steps to continue to value Spanish in class and in our school community. Instead of single words to label classroom objects, the chapter focuses on how the word is most likely used in an authentic context. It was important for us to track our majority speakers' proficiency levels in Spanish. Proficiency is the ability to use language spontaneously in real world situations.
