ABSTRACT

After going through various information and interpretations of the goddesses, there is a fi nal attempt to present the idea of beauty in South Asian traditions in general in relation to the identities of the goddesses and women. The perspective of beauty is a signifi cant aesthetic response of South Asian conceptualization in the particularities of my research. The response is the result of a complex relationship about what is terrible and what is beautiful. This chapter constructs a discourse around a question: How can Kali be a beautiful deity with her lolling tongue and a garland of skulls?
