ABSTRACT

Sticking it out means making a decision to stay in the game even when all signs seem to point a person in a direction off the board. Sticking it out means weathering the low-lows. It means finding a way to be happy for one's friend who just landed a lead when the other's agent just dumped him/her. It means practicing the accent for one's new role for ten or twelve hours instead of only the two hours he/she was required. It means showing up for the audition even when one has lost all confidence. The overnight success stories people have heard of in the business are actually stories of dogged determination—people working quietly, tirelessly for years before that overnight success occurred. People who are very successful work very, very hard—harder than one may think. People feel very uncomfortable when they listen back to their voice for the first time.
