ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book talks about that gender, sexuality and identity are changing at an unprecedented pace. In the affluent North and West, LGBTQI+ people are more visible than ever before, and are increasingly incorporated into wider society. The book discusses that for LGBTQI+ parents, representation often means a quietly but firmly accepted visibility; for their children it can involve an aspect of pride and a celebration of their individuality. Further, a lack of visibility can have negative impacts associated with children's diminished sense of belonging at school. As Sarmento and Freire point out, children whose families are recognized at schools have a better learning experience. The book also discusses several of the parents interviewed complained about the standard forms schools use to record information about parents and carers.
