ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses leadership learning trajectories. It discusses the different leadership learning outcomes that you will encounter as you learn about leadership, learn how to do leadership, and experience leadership. The chapter introduces the Reflection, Assessment, Challenge, Support (ReAChS) of leadership. It explores the information about leadership learning and development of adults and students. Developing a leader identity is perhaps one of the most important leadership learning outcomes. Similar to your leader identity, there are two takeaways from understanding leadership: People hold ideas about what is and what is not leadership, and these vary by person; and Understanding of leadership changes and develops over time, from fairly simple to more complex. Challenges are learning triggers; they are experiences that are new and that may call for skills and perspectives you have never used or developed; or experiences that create imbalance for you and provide an opportunity to question established ways of thinking and acting.
