ABSTRACT

This chapter profiles, with ultimate precision, the scope and breadth of the evraziiskaya strategiya, the Eurasia-centric foreign policy course implemented in Kazakhstan between 1994 and 2019. In highlighting the close connection between regime neo-Eurasianism and the authoritarian power agenda devised by the élites in Almaty/Astana, the chapter ultimately unveils how the rhetorical de-peripheralisation of Kazakhstan supported the agenda of international legitimisation of the Nazarbaev regime.
