ABSTRACT

Changes in the Earth's atmosphere cause warming in the planet's lands and oceans. This warming has wide-ranging implications for Earth's biological systems, including human systems. The impact of global warming is uneven across the globe and has different effects on women and men at different times and in different places. This chapter reviews the climate science associates with this main driver of climate change and examines the human impacts of global warming. The World Bank focuses on the health impacts likely in a 4 degree world: Vulnerability toward health impacts of temperature extremes varies from different subgroups of population. Mid and low income countries face more challenges in comparison with OECD countries. Children and women are generally expected to be affected more severely. The mission of World Bank is global economic development, the Bank report notes that the negative impacts of climate change felt more strongly in some regions and by some individuals and communities.
