ABSTRACT

The case study presented in this chapter is focused on a Youth Specialist Programme, delivered by the Eikon Charity. Eikon are an award-winning charity, whose vision is to develop happy, thriving and resilient young adults who make a positive contribution to society. Poor educational achievement has been linked reciprocally to a wide range of negative outcomes such as unemployment, poverty and poor health outcomes. It is therefore essential that opportunities to attain are socially just or they will reinforce existing marginalisations and injustices. This programme is an example of schools recognising the impact of young people's wellbeing to their educational attainment. The Youth Specialist Programme addresses this by focusing in on understanding young people's lives, in order to understand where their education sits and what is enabling and constraining their learning and attainment. The Youth Specialist programme is delivered in partnership with the school.
