ABSTRACT

This introduction resents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters under this section of the book. The case studies contextualise our critical framework for practice by bringing to life its key concepts. They introduce the issue that the programme or project has addressed in its broadest sense, drawing out key injustices to be considered. The awareness, choices and actions may be the outcomes of the critical pedagogical work, or may lead to further discernible outcomes. Additional outcomes may comprise changes in the agency of the participants or the structures in which they are situated, and/or changes to wellbeing and social justice. The analysis of each case is therefore organised by progressing inwards through the concentric circles of the model to ascertain what 'was' before the project or service, and then working outwards through the concentric circles of the model to understand what changes happened as a result of the critical pedagogical work.
