ABSTRACT
This chapter describes the methodologies of reflective' turn and explores how this has caused academic researchers to think more deeply about how to include the subject' more equally in the research process. The idea of engaging older people as active researchers is also fairly new and the idea of actively involving students as co-researchers within schools and universities is also fairly new. The voices of older people in co-research are just beginning to be heard. The article identifies a number of key issues for successful participatory action research, which include honouring the life experience of older people, building bidirectional trust and training with older adults. Voluntary organisations participating valued the intervention and were positive about the effect on individuals. The University of Hertfordshire has also conducted student-staff collaborative research on student employability skills and the importance of trust being built between teachers and students is highlighted.
