ABSTRACT
The construction industry in a broad sense includes activities of new construction works, and repair, maintenance, minor alteration and addition (RMAA) works. New construction works include building, civil engineering and infrastructure works. RMAA works are construction activities conducted to existing structures and the built environment. Construction markets in developed countries have been changing. In some places, new construction market shrinks but RMAA market expands. This chapter will examine the composition of the construction industry in developed societies, explaining why the RMAA sector of the construction industry deserves attention of society.
