ABSTRACT
This chapter will provide a general review of accident causation models and different approaches to safety management. The main purpose of safety management is to prevent accidents from occurring. An effective safety management system has to take into account why accidents happened. Accident causation models are closely linked to safety management approaches. This chapter builds on the previous chapter of safety performance and provides the theoretical foundation of safety management.
