ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses what is the significance of the social network approach? It also addresses what is understood by one's social network and what is the function of the social network? The chapter explores what are the four support competencies that warrant client's demand for support? It also explores what is meant by stress buffer research and direct effect research? The chapter examines what is the social network method and what are the social network techniques? It also examines how does the social network contribute to meeting the actual needs for safety, affection and self-determination? When personal and work relations become more business-like, the social network's function to identify problems starts to decrease. Professional groups could take the task upon themselves to ensure timely referral to social work. The stress buffering theory or social cohesion theory points out that a close social network is important for individuals' health.
