ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses what is the role of the affection brain in life events? It also addresses what causes emotional stress in clients? The chapter explores how can the cathartic method help reduce emotional stress and restore strength? Life events can influence the affection brain by inhibiting the negative systems and stimulating positive systems. Pain can be described as becoming conscious of vulnerability of a physical and/or psychological and/or social nature. Sexual and physical abuse is a combination of physical, psychological and social pain; however illness or amputation can also cause psychological hurt, quite aside from the physical pain. The social worker says that the release or the embarrassment that occurs is normal, so that the client feels stimulated to let go, or to release. The social worker ensures there is a balance between the 'intraverted attention' and the 'extraverted attention' so that the level or 'dosage' of pain release/relief remains appropriate for the client.
