ABSTRACT

If leadership is all about getting things done through people, then the one true measure of leadership effectiveness is that the things they want to see happen do happen, and that these turn out (in the main) to be the right things. I say ‘in the main’ simply because it’s impossible to be right every time: there are just too many complexities for that to happen. Furthermore, these things should happen with the enthusiastic participation of the people being led – they are committed to making it happen, fully engaged with the process and motivated to work as hard as they are capable of working. That’s not easy!
