ABSTRACT

As stated earlier, the next generation of assessments is placing a much greater demand on writing from today’s students. So it is imperative that teachers in all disciplines at all grade levels incorporate authentic writing opportunities in their classrooms. Because of the way today’s educational system is structured, students often perceive English class as English class and math class as something different. They ask, “Why would I dare bring something that occurs in English class into math class?” Everything seems to be so compartmentalized. Even in the elementary grades that are still selfcontained, schedules often dictate a specific time for subjects to begin and end, often with little flexibility.
