ABSTRACT
Matching Mania is a strategy that incorporates a game to help students gain content knowledge in a non-threatening environment. Students work cooperatively while practicing and strengthening their logical reasoning skills. Grid Games is another strategy that incorporates a game to help students gain content knowledge in a non-threatening environment. Students work cooperatively while practicing and strengthening their logical reasoning skills. ABC Sum Race is a strategy that uses reflective discussions and journaling as students engage in a competition to review conceptual knowledge and basic procedures. The ABC Sum Race Reflection provides students with the opportunity to write about their thinking and their experiences in the activity. Several vocabulary strategies to support students understanding of terms, symbols, and notations are given. Visual Vocabulary, Frayer Model, Reverse Frayer, Concept Cards, and Vocabulary Ribbon are examples that employ forming concepts, comparing and contrasting concepts, and using graphic organizers.
