ABSTRACT
The Three Phases of Logical Reasoning Questions & Look Fors is a structure that guides both the teacher and the student in what successful implementation of these tools involves. It also serves as a guide for administrators in gathering evidence during teacher observations. In addition, this structure serves as reflection for both students and teachers. In order to explicitly share expectations with students and to help them understand the criteria needed to demonstrate proficiency with respect to logical reasoning, the student look fors can be given as a guide. This document can be placed in their Journey's Notebook and referenced frequently. It can also serve as an outline for collecting evidence of work that demonstrates these skills. Having a common language among the students, staff, and administration that supports a school-wide or district-wide focus on developing student's logical reasoning skills and building independent thinkers opens the door to many opportunities for professional development and coaching.
