This chapter provides a means for understanding the essential elements of splicing together a significant message. Considering all the ingredients that constitute an effective message, especially from the standpoint of message design, one will be better prepared to find an appropriate topic. Meta-communication is a type of trigger stimulating the speaker to consider his message, the delivery and how his audience is receiving the message. If the speaker tells his audience what he plans on doing and then how he plans on presenting the supporting data and validation, he has in essence provided the audience a transparent structure. Once the speaker realizes the benefits of considering purpose from both his vantage point as well as from that of the listeners, the speaker is ready to have the purpose he formulates expressed in a promise-to-explain. An Orbital Outline provides a speaker who is speaking extemporaneously a powerful speaker's outline.
