DOI link for Defining
Defining is common to ALL public speaking pursuits. Speakers who keep in mind that they are, in spirit, constantly attempting to capture the essence of what they are speaking about will embrace the prismatic-way-of-thinking. Since this prismatic-way-of-thinking is linked to the "power of three", it becomes easy for the audience to visualize the entire thrust of the speaker's presentation, especially if the speaker provides a preview statement. Thinking in terms of "three" allows for a transparent structure that can be highlighted and controlled by the speaker through conventional transitions and signposts. An Orbital Outline encourages the speaker to find just the right prisms to convey his thoughts. In capturing the essence of whatever the speaker is attempting to present, the speaker chooses well-thought-out prisms in order to provide a nuanced perspective. They enable the speaker to cast light—through these prisms—on the object or concept to be defined.
