From learning the significance of making a positive first impression, to grabbing the audience's attention, to getting the audience involved, this chapter provides the tools necessary to make a positive impact from start to finish. Especially first impressions, attention-getting devices, audience involvement, and most organization tools have the potential to make an impact from the very beginning of a speech. Which method one chooses to get the audience's attention is a matter of personal choice, the speaker's comfort zone, and the audience whom one is addressing. One can address members directly, or pose a question, or tell a story, use humor or an icebreaker, move, speak softly, dress the part, show one's passion, maintain intensive eye contact, build tension and use keepers.
