This chapter describes a scene from the Swedish court of appeal that, while it is typical of the recently reformed Swedish trial procedure, is also in some respects untypical of the same procedure. The scene is taken from a case tried in the Stockholm appellate court on 26 November 2010. The chapter is divided into three parts. The first part gives a description of the use of audio-visual media technologies in the trial procedure in Svea hovrtt. The second part presents the background of and reasons for the reform of trial procedure, based on a critical reading of the preparatory works. The third and last part shifts the focus away from juridical questions and discusses how the use of audio-visual media technology affects social interaction in the courtroom, as well as the constitution of a nested and mediated judicial space in the court of appeal.
