ABSTRACT
The clause is a syntactic unit that consists of a subject (explicit or implicit) and a verb phrase. The term ‘sentence’ may be used to refer either to a simple clause or to a larger unit containing more than one clause. Clauses and sentences may be either main or subordinate.
