ABSTRACT

Taking the harmonic structures from Chapter 3 as a point of departure, Chapter 7 introduces you to the physics of music. Using both music notation and screenshots of the piano roll editor from various DAWs, this chapter describes the overtone series and its relationship to orchestration in both traditional and commercial settings, as well as timbre, equalization, the Lower Interval Limit, and the relationship between frequency ratios and the notions of consonance and dissonance in music discussed in Chapter 4.
