ABSTRACT

Between sessions ten and eleven Francis and I arranged time to discuss the improvisations transcribed at City University. Material that evaluated his responses to specific improvisations is contained in the previous chapter. Francis also spent time in this interview/data collection discussing music therapy in more general terms. These detailed reflections on the first stage of our work are presented here separately. In setting forth Francis’s thoughts, this chapter will provide a context for the next stage in the therapy process. His words provide an extraordinary and illuminated view from the client’s perspective. Discussing and analysing specific aspects of the music therapy process, Francis brings a unique voice to understanding the link between musical growth and therapeutic outcome. Its structure unfolds in the same sequence as the assessment itself.
