ABSTRACT
From session eleven onwards I did not contribute musically again; my role became exclusively that of active listener. There were fewer verbal explorations, the format of sessions moving toward a single improvisation, normally lasting between 40 and 50 minutes. Music now took precedence. As Francis’s illness became increasingly acute, his physical symptoms became ever more present.
