ABSTRACT

Are waves transatlantic? This is an inevitable question for transnational feminists placed in a North American Women’s Studies classroom. The language of first, second, and third waves continues to bring an inordinate measure of comforting order and logic to feminist theorizing. Yet, for a transnational feminist, such a logic can be anything but comforting and we feel compelled to consider how we might undermine the very organizing premises of the field we have asked our students to enter into without undermining their confidence in us as the instructor.
