ABSTRACT

Young women tend to make more intricate and detailed maps than their male peers. This could be because they are a little more mature and because they may see a wider range of opportunities available in the world. Many colleges are over 60 percent female at this point, and this can affect college aspirations. For many young women, seeing their sisters, mothers, aunts, and cousins attend and conquer college can be an inspiring experience. However, the sheer range of interests and talents that young women list out can make for a confusing map. Some of the areas women may want to pursue might involve little formal education, while others involve decades of training. Some have pointed out that women's range of talents can work against them in pursuing careers in difficult fields, such as STEM, or pursuing other talents such as writing or art.
