ABSTRACT

The logic of paradox In ancient times Heraclitus posited that that all entities come into being through a tension between opposing properties, that opposites, though different, are nonetheless interconnected. The discussion in Chapter 2 illustrates how this metaphysical thread has woven in and out of Western science and philosophy throughout history. Nonetheless, for most contemporary Western minds, Heraclitus’s ideas are paradoxical and counterintuitive.
