ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides a comprehensive overview of a 70-year period of planning processes in relation to the politico-economic circumstances in BiH. While several comprehensive books on the politico-economic transition have been written, comprehensive studies on planning processes in BiH have not been produced. The book argues that BiH went through a different set of trajectories, due to multifaceted transition processes, which can be examined by historical trajectory analysis. The book focuses on embedding the BiH-specific transition in the larger literature on politico-economic transitions, using the city of Mostar as a case study that clearly illustrates the influence of the politico-economic transition on the theory and practice of planning. The main objective of this work is to analyse the impact of politico-economic ideologies on urban planning processes, in order to offer insights into the ever-changing shaping of planning systems.
