ABSTRACT

One of the biggest problems in writing characters is making sure they all don’t sound the same. This chapter illustrates how the Enneagram system provides clear strategies for avoiding same-sounding characters in stories. Each Enneagram style has its own native speaking styles, information distortion filters, body language, and speaking patterns. Again, these communication styles are generic to the Enneagram styles (1–9), but they can easily be adapted to specific characters in specific story contexts. In addition to communication styles, the chapter illustrates common communication behavior blind spots, speaking attitudes, and speaking styles that can additionally be added to the communication mix to further differentiate one character from another.
