ABSTRACT

Just as there are nine core character communication styles for the Enneagram system, so there are nine different strategies for how each Enneagram style does conflict. Conflict is an essential tool for any storyteller, so mastering how characters come into conflict, how they fight once there, and how they get out of conflict are critical skills every writer needs. This chapter describes all these skills and how they relate to each of the nine core Enneagram styles. In addition, the pinch-crunch model is introduced, which is the conflict model used by any human being, regardless of the Enneagram. But the Enneagram shows specific pinch and crunch behaviors particular to each Enneagram style, so writers have additional resources for building convincing and true-to-life conflict scenarios.
