ABSTRACT

Character change is an essential story development process that must be present in any story, if it is a story and not a situation. How characters change, why they change, and how that change expresses itself in a story are not always evident to a writer. Many writers struggle with this problem and do not have clear strategies to help them solve the problem. The Enneagram can help provide obvious solutions and approaches to the problem of character change. Each of the nine Enneagram styles have character arcs built into them that show how they begin a story and where they end a story, as people, i.e., how their characters traverse the change process. Characters don’t just have to change for the better; they can also change for the worse, and the Enneagram-Story Connection describes how this applies to each Enneagram style. This is an invaluable story development tool for any writer fighting to solve the problem of conflict in their stories.
