ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the journey that wellbeing has been on over recent years, and the regard with which it is held by business in the modern era. Private sector organisations have been quick to pick up on wellbeing in terms of productivity and have gone some way to establishing what this may look like in terms of profitability. Surveying the workforce is an effective way of understanding the problems, and the needs, of the workforce. There are numerous studies that have examined the influence of a number of aspects of working life, and the existent environmental factors. These studies link learning in an organisation with leadership approaches and the prevailing culture within the organisation. In terms of the bottom line, and as discussed earlier this is the focus for many, the studies found that the culture impacts on the bottom line, or performance as it is often termed.
