ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on practical experience at the highest levels of public service management. It concentrates on how those in charge have worked with wellbeing in the public sector and made enormous improvements in working practice. Rosanna Hunt provides the next insight from the National Health Service (UK) Horizons team. The team has a long history dating back to the beginning of the century. Rosanna charts her experiences leading this relatively small team, with a huge mission, in becoming a Community Interest Company (CIC). Justin Varney is the national lead for wellbeing at Public Health England and gives an account of his experiences of wellbeing in the UK, and the management of such. Justin explains that for too many managers there seems to be a fundamental disconnection from the issue of workplace health and wellbeing, and why it is important for businesses and line managers.
