ABSTRACT

When looking at dementia, indeed, any condition, it is essential that culture and other contextual factors are given due consideration. Part of this will be gauging attitudes towards dementia. This includes exploring how the people from diverse communities feel about the condition, their views on prognosis, and awareness of the healthcare services available. Services provided generally fail to do justice to the needs of whole swathes of the population. A model of care is adopted that is, to all intent and purposes, meaningless for these groups. Because of this, families whose lives are affected by dementia are left with little or no support.
