ABSTRACT

The role of a subject leader is to provide professional leadership and management for a subject in order ensure that high quality teaching is secure, resources are used effectively and standards of learning and achievement for all children are high. In order to do this they are required to keep up to date, examining recent documentation and literature, reporting changes back to colleagues, and collecting and disseminating information around the school and support, guide, motivate teachers and support staff in D&T. A subject leader is to identify the needs of D&T in the school and use this to produce an annual action plan which will be part of a school foundation subject development plan. Experiencing the real world is an essential part of education and school trips are the perfect way to do this. A school trip provides a learning venue that matches children's natural inclination to know more about things and engages even those with short attention spans.
