ABSTRACT

A busy teacher will not have time to sit with each child in turn to analyse their progress in Design and Technology (D&T) every lesson. However, a brief survey of a group of children can provide an overview of their progress. There are opportunities to assess children's written work in D&T through their design ideas and their evaluations. This chapter gives an outline of the practical skills and knowledge that children should be developing during their D&T lessons: Structures, Mechanisms, Textiles, Food. For Assessing design skills the design been drawn using appropriate techniques such as cross-sectional or exploded diagrams and the appropriate technical vocabulary been used for assessing design skills should be explored. In order to assess evaluation skills the children should cover the changes which were made during the manufacturing process and explores comment about the look of the finished product.
