ABSTRACT

This chapter opens with a discussion of the fields of corpus linguistics and discourse analysis, before moving on to considerations regarding utilising a corpus-based discourse analysis approach or corpus-assisted discourse studies approach. Here the main techniques in corpus research are explored: for example, using frequency lists, keywords, concordances, and clusters, as well as issues to consider when drawing on corpus-based discourse analysis. The methodology of the study is explained in terms of detailing the context, setting and participants, and researcher’s role, as well the small corpus used in this study.
