ABSTRACT

A landscape-based site-selection analysis provides a response to the question based upon landscape factors. Site-selection analyses can be used on every level of landscape design and planning, from the national level of planning for major infrastructure such as motorways or power lines, to the neighbourhood level of selecting a site for a new house. Site-selection analysis can therefore involve large tracts of land and address complex conditions that require considerable amounts of data and skilful data processing. A common aim of landscape analysis is to locate a new construction in the right place. The purpose for defining site-selection factors is to identify sites in the landscape where there are strong arguments in favour of or against a prospective development, and also areas where there is flexibility in response. The development imposes certain requirements for the site, which are compared with the potentials offered by the landscape.
