ABSTRACT

A primary school child was caught by his teacher using expletives in communicating with other children. The teacher chastised the child. She told him that such language was offensive and should not be repeated. The teacher decided to inform the child’s parents so that the parents could send the same message at home and help the child truly understand the inappropriateness of using expletives. When the child’s father arrived in school and found out about his child’s bad behaviour, he scolded his child-and he did so emphatically in front of the teacher, complete with expletives! Now the teacher realised where the child had learned the offensive language.
