ABSTRACT

This chapter suggests the realisation of the emotional, behavioural, interpersonal, imaginal, energetic and spiritual dimensions, in particular, are largely reliant on the responsiveness from the other. It explains the idea of a dimension having its own right, its own developmental path, or its own potential in some way decided or directed by the distinctive nature of that dimension. The chapter surveys the field and suggests ways to strengthen clients in these dimensions, within therapy and in their lives in general. It considers research into increasing capacity in these dimensions, and examines the effect of developing specific dimensions on other dimensions; the coinfluencing participatory whole. Somatic focused therapies, in different ways, give primacy to the body with a specific focus on resolving trauma. The wide-reaching capacity of emotional intelligence includes the way in which empathic responding and expressions of concern are possible. Optimism benefits the interpersonal dimension in helping form relationships.
